I've bought the entire Papo T. rex family: the green walking rex, a more upright brown rex and two baby rexes: one green and one brown. Some paleontologists have speculated that females might have been larger than males, so I named the larger brown rex "Sue" after the famous fossil and the slightly smaller green rex "Fang" because he has a bottom tooth that sticks out. This tooth (had he been a full-sized, living dinosaur) would have created a space between his teeth and a "slot" in his premaxilla similar to the fourth tooth slot found on the jaws of crocodiles. "Fang" has a space between his teeth and a slot in his upper jaw for his crooked bottom tooth. Now that's a toy with personality! All of the models are fairly accurate and very detailed with good paint jobs, which is pretty amazing considering they are mass-produced.I have only a few minor complaints / suggestions:1) The green "running" T. rex looks like he's walking, not running. Big whoop. You can decide for yourself by looking at the picture.2) I am actually surprised at how well my walking T. rex balances. Maybe I just got a good one or balance is less of an issue for me. Still, a little one might get frustrated by how easily the walking dino topples.3) The paint job on Papo dinos seems to scratch more easily than the paint job on Schleich dinos. (Schleich comes in second behind Papo when it comes to detail and believable paint jobs.) I didn't notice this right away because my dinos sit on a shelf and serve as models for my paleo art. My five-year-old cousin, on the other hand, is pretty rough on her dinos. I gave her a brown Papo T. rex on a Friday and by the end of the weekend she had managed to scuff him up so the underlying pinkish-brown color showed through on his eyebrows, nose and other vulnerable body parts.4) T. rex probably had at least a few feathers for display purposes. This would not detract from their fearsomeness. It's about time toys started reflecting what we know about dinosaurs.5) Almost every single toy gets the hand orientation wrong. The arms of most theropod dinosaurs would have functioned similarly to wings. The elbows and wrists had hinge joints that were more or less parallel to one other. With hands held out straight in front, the palms would have faced one another.6) The green T. rex totally needs a small prey item to dangle from his mouth. When the Papo T. rex family is together, the babies are looking up, begging for food. The upright T. rex guards the babies while the green T. rex brings food. Therefore, the green rex *needs* a detailed, contemporaneous prey item that fits perfectly in his teeth! Papo, please make one for him.7) The jaw on the walking T. rex is floppier than the jaws on the other T. rexes. It only has two distinct positions: all the way open and completely shut. The jaw is held shut by the crooked bottom fang / upper jaw slot, so it flops open quite easily. The mouths on the other T. rexes are much more posable.8) Baby T. rexes probably had a lighter build and a layer of fluffy down.Other than that, these toys are great, both for collectors and for somewhat careful children whose dinosaur battles don't get too rough.Really great quality, not that cheap hollow textured plastic I can't stand that you see on a lot of figures. Looks great, perfect size to fit on a shelf and worth the money.Very well made. This is yet another stunning addition to the Papo dinosaur collection.Sculpt: 5/5. The sculpting that Papo does on all of their figures is absolutely stunning. These are like mini sideshow pieces. All the scales, folds of the skin all are sculpted very well. Absolutely fantastic.Paint:5/5 the paint is just as good as the sculpt. A beautiful paint scheme on this Papo figurine. Particularly similar to the Lost World Jurassic Park trex. The paint blends in nicely In all areas of the figure, and looks natural.Articulation:5/5.Just like shleich, mojo, collectA, and safari LTD, the dinosaurs aren't very articulated. HOWEVER, articulation isn't needed in this figure. In fact if there was artication in the knees, head, or arms, then it would ruin the sculpt that makes this figure pop and come to life. The figure does have one point of articulation, and that is the jaw. You can open and close the jaw, to make this trex roar, or fight with another Papo figure like the spinosaurus.Price( is it worth it?) : 5/5- Absolutely! This figurine is fantastic. Well sculpted, painted, and has a very good smooth articulation for the jaws. That's all this figure needs. For $24.99, this is an affordable and very stunning figure for collectors and kids!OVERALL SCORE: 20/20100% (A+)A fantastic addition to the Papo line of dinosaurs. A fantastic piece for collectors, as well as kids!Love the head design, very fierce looking. My only issue is that the body seems way too small. The head I think takes up just as much space as the body does. It leaves him looking like he has a giant head and long arms and legs. It's just a little disproportionally off. But is is sturdy, in a great pose, and looks badass none the less. (Better theropods that Papo makes are the acrocanthasaurus, carnotaurus, spinosaurus, and allosaurus.)As with other Papo dinosaurs, the detailing is far superior to most other toy dinos and even rivals or surpasses some professional resin kits. I don't mind the somewhat oversized feet since there is no base for the model to stand on, and I don't mind the somewhat overlong arms---they sort of go along with the big feet. I do wish the arms didn't jut out as much from the body and wish that they weren't so far apart---but that's not a big deal. What does bother me is the lower front tooth that sticks out at a ridiculous angle. I can only accept the model with the mouth fully closed. Then that tooth fits into a groove and is nearly undetectable when viewing the model in profile. Viewing it head on, the tooth still interrupts the line of premaxillary (upper front) teeth which, otherwise, are appropriately sized and spaced. As another reviewer noted, that tooth makes it look more like the critter from Peter Jackson's remake of King Kong. If the other teeth were more recurved, they would be better than a lot of resin kits of similar size. Overall, it's still the best toy T. rex I've seen. Size-wise, it's appropriately larger than the imaginative Papo Allosaurus. This dinosaur is awesome but there was a little scratch on its head when we got it.Great figure, very recommended for dinosaur lovers. I like that mouths open and closed.Has a striking resemblance to the Tyrannosaurus made famous by Spielberg and Winston. However It is a little leaner in the body and its forelimbs are too large. The head design is however very JP!If you want a paleontologically accurate model rather than a toy, this ticks several boxes, but also misses others. Its paint job and moulding are better than most others, but the proportions are not right, the lack of lips is incorrect and it is too lean (so the science says anyway).Quality of the moulding is good as is the paint finish. The critical will notice the lower jaw is a slightly different colour to the head and body, the one on my model is anyway. All in all, it’s a great buy either as a toy or for display. The model looks great, love the detail and paint job. It seems to be reasonably up to date with current knowledge of T rex's apart from the lack of primitive feathers (still being debated). A great display piece. Now for the downside, the delivery service is terrible. This was left in a box next to my bin in clear sight of anyone walking past on the path!!The delivery driver didn't knock, they just dumped my parcel and scarpered, then they marked this as being "handed to receptionist".This has been the delivery method for my parcels for a couple of weeks now, it's only a matter of time before something left there gets stolen.Papo make some of the best dinosaur models around and this one is no expecption. The green colouring is subtle (unlike a similar Schleich model I have) and you'd think this had stepped directly out of Jurassic Park. The moveable jaw gives a good view of the sharp pointy teeth and the eyes are well-painted. I really like the action pose they've given it, but do be aware that as its hind legs are set to look like its running, that rearmost leg is only supporting the model on tippy toes, which means tis a tad unstable. Falls over a lot in fact, a slight breeze in the room and I turned to see T Rex had wiped out two velociraptors, a pterasaur and my clock from the shelf below. It just needs something small wedged against that hind leg to be a bit more secure however, or somewhere to lean its tail against. Overall I'm very pleased. My wife looked it over and asked me how much I'd paid for it. I was very happy to tell her, and her response was "Really? Wow!" (£17.04) The structure and detail in the modeling and paintwork is extremely satisfying. I bought it as reference for some artwork, and it provides everything I wanted. The jaw opens and closes, and they've included the cheek skin exposed when the mouth is open, along with a thoroughly convincing tongue. I can go ahead and nit pick: the angle of the impression of the ribs under the skin is a little bit off to my eye, but the angle they have chosen and some skin swags they've crafted work together in an aesthetically pleasing manner. They've gone for musclar arms and developed pectorals, which harmonize well with the rest of the body. Detail everywhere, while maintaining a consistent, well posed overall model. It stands without assistance. Only the lower jaw moves.Unbelievable realistic detail. Fantastic mouth detail with, teeth, jaw muscles and tongue. Mouth opens and closes! Grandson was over the moon. You will be thrilled with this wonderful dinosaur.
