The Easter Bunny brought this to my dinosaur-crazed 4 year old daughter. She loved it so much, we've read it every single day for the past week! It has a super cool "dinosaur lab" in the front that extends out, so readers are able to read about various dinosaurs on pages while referring back to the "lab" for further analysis. The lab includes a "microscope" with a wheel little fingers can turn to observe certain items up close (fern imprint, scaly skin, etc.). There is a size reference that shows the dinosaurs height compared to a 6-ft adult. Two pull out "drawers" show various fossil items such as velociprator claw and triceratops horn. The following pages discuss the types of dinosaur/animal: Meat Eaters, Plant Eaters, Gentle Giants, Small But Deadly, Suits Of Armor, Flying Reptiles, Swimming Reptiles and include photos, popouts, tabs with dinosaur name and pronunciation with additional info on each dino as well as a "lab instruction" to refer the child back to the lab at the beginning. Example: "Triceratops, Lab: Open drawer 2" when drawer 2 is opened, a close up of Triceratops horn is shown. So the reading is very interactive and informative. Just a heads up to parents of young ones: there is no sugar coating in the descriptions of the violent nature of some of these blood-thirsty killer dinosaurs. Example: "... could have been used to stab prey in the throat or slash open the victim's belly." ".. lunged at victims and took great bites of flesh with its sharp teeth. One twist of its sturdy neck could have ripped its victim limb from limb." All around, very informative, interactive book - highly recommend for dinosaur lovers!
