If you don't require writing on par with Steinbeck, Abraham Verghese, Erik Larson, or Melville, you can have a lot of fun with Eric Garcia's Dino series. Read the first two books first, though: Anonymous Rex and Casual Rex. This 3rd book does not do justice to introducing the main character or his situation. Anonymous Rex will have you ROTFL, and Casual Rex is not a bad second, given the ridiculous premise! These are just plain good fun reads - perfect for summer reading in the tent or in a hammock. Nothing heavy, and the violence and sex are pretty much PG these days. Highly recommend them for pure entertainment factor, but not for literary excellence. I doubt the the latter is what the author was shooting for in these anyway. He did hit the mark in a creatively brilliant premise and a "gets under your skin" protagonist (pun intended for those who've read these), if that's what you can even call him:).
